Woon Sing and Thien Khuan of Terra Farm are the pioneer biodynamic farmers in Malaysia, have been practising the Australian Demeter Biodynamic farming. In 2018, Terra bought a 10-acre oil palm plantation to experiment with palm oil cultivation using biodynamic farming methods. During the early days, the palm trees on this land were very unhealthy, the soil was hardened and poor which could produce only 2 tonnes annually. After three years of nurturing the land, cultivating soil humus and soil structure to retain water and fertilizer, production has increased to 6 tonnes annually. The crops have since yielded more quality fruits. The intention was simply inspiring, both farmers felt the need to preserve more palm plantation land to convert into biodynamic farming practice. They felt they had to practice it at own experience, so that more commercial palm plantation farmers could follow and witness with the wonders with own eyes . The importance of practicing palm plantation via biodynamic farming is because the soil would improve and have direct impact to reduce flash floods that caused by hardening of soil which prevent the rainwater to be absorbed for many commercial palm plantation. Generally, palm oil has high nutritional value and high levels of vitamins A, E, and K. Terra Farm Whole Palm Oil contains 2700ppm of vitamin E compared to general palm oil which normally contains about 500ppm of vitamin E. This is mainly due to general palm oil grown with chemical fertilizers and pesticides has high impurity content and require undergoing multiple chemicals including bleaching and high temperature around 273 degrees Celsius to produce. After five years of vigorous farming and management, Terra started pressing palm oil with a small machine, processing it at 100 degrees Celsius, steam purification, and after pressing the oil, it goes through hot water to remove impurities. (A method started in Egypt thousands of years ago and still used by Africans today) produces crude oil with very low impurities (-0.02%). The taste is sweet and pure.
