DescriptionBeginner courses with David Watson.David has had a lifelong love of woodwork, and following a career in motor racing, he became a teacher of Maths and Design Technology in 2006. For the past ten years, he has been teaching woodturning as a Wattywoodturner in West Sussex. David is an accredited tutor with the AWGB. He is excited to be offering courses for beginners at Hope Woodturning in 2026.Tariff: £150 per person for a 1-day course.  £250 per person for a 2-day course. All timber and tools supplied. Thank you David for a fab day, we’ll definitely see you again!Sue *****I am new to woodturning and my level of skill was very basic and self-taught.   So this course was literally skill-changing!  I had the best day absorbing and learning a wealth of knowledge and practical basic skills, equipping me to now use them and to continue to practice, play, hone my skills, experiment and  hopefully produce some master pieces at home. (Rome wasn’t built in a day)!  On return home,  I immediately booked a second day to  build my knowledge around bowl turning.It was a real privilege to be taught by David Watson, who was clearly very skilled and an excellent teacher.  He was kind, friendly, fun and more importantly, patient.  There was no pressure or feeling of failure if you needed to be re-shown how to do something or asking questions.The facilities were incredible and the equipment was a reflection of Simon Hope’s exceptionally accomplished business.The only problem being – you are using the best lathes and tools rather than my borrowed antiquated lathe and chisels, so I anticipate spending a lot of money in the shop in the upcoming week.I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who is truly interested in learning to woodturn properly.
